Enhancing Natural Light Through Smart Window Treatments

April 28, 2023

Here’s some excellent tips for enhancing the natural light in your home through smart window treatment choices, as prepared by the Florida shade and blind installation team here at Design Your Blind.

How can I enhance my home’s natural light through window treatments?

  1. Sheer Curtains

Sheer curtains are ideal for enhancing natural light while still having privacy. Sheer curtains are lightweight and made from translucent material that filters natural light while providing privacy. Sheer curtains come in a range of both modern and traditional styles. Look for sheer curtains made of cotton, linen, and silk, which are all very durable and add texture to your space. We reccomend hanging sheer curtains close to the ceiling and allowing them to flow to the floor. This makes your windows look larger.

  1. Shutters

Shutters allow homeowners to enhance natural light and provide privacy to their space. Shutters are solid window coverings that are installed on the interior or exterior of window frames. Shutters come in a range of materials including wood, composite, or vinyl, and can be painted or stained to match home decor. Shutters are ideal for rooms that need privacy like bathrooms or bedrooms. Shutters allow you to control how much natural light enters your space, while protecting you from the outdoors. Look for shutters that fit your window frames. You can choose between full height or cafe style shutters that cover the bottom half of the window only.“

  1. Blinds

Blinds are popular window treatments that can be used to enhance a home’s natural light. Blinds come in wood, vinyl, or aluminum, and can be customized to fit any window shape or size. Blinds are ideal for homeowners who want full control of natural light. Blinds come in horizontal or vertical varieties. Horizontal blinds are the most common and have slats that are stacked on top of eachother. Vertical blinds are good for sliding doors and windows, and are made of vertical slats that can be tilted to control how much light enters your space. You can customize blinds with different slat sizes, materials, and colors, and even opt for motorized blinds.

  1. Roman Shades

Roman shades are an elegant choice that can enhance the natural light in your space. Roman shades are constructed from fabric, and can be customized to fit bay window shape or size. They fold neatly when raised up, for a clean and classical look. Roman blinds can be customized out of different colors, fabrics, and patterns. For rooms that want to be bright and airy, choose roman shades made out of lightweight and sheer fabric. If you want a cozier room, look for Roman shades made of thicker and heavier material.
